February 25, 2013
COLUMBIA, MD – The Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) Board of Directors today unanimously approved the naming of Lawrence F. Twele as Acting President and CEO of the HCEDA. Twele replaces Laura Neuman, who vacated the position to assume the role of Anne Arundel County Executive.
Twele has been Executive Vice President overseeing business development for the HCEDA since June 2011. Before that, he served as Director of the Carroll County Department of Economic Development, where he spent over six years guiding business development, business retention, workforce development and tourism. Prior to that, he spent almost seven years with the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED), where he was responsible for the statewide regional office system. Major accomplishments included launching a regional business retention program and playing a key role in coordinating and facilitating major expansion projects in the Baltimore Region.
Before joining DBED, Twele spent 7 years in management in a Fortune Global 500 manufacturing firm and 3 years as a manager of a small business. With both large- and small-business experience, Twele understands the issues that confront local businesses.
Twele earned his CEcD (Certified Economic Developer) designation in March 2009. He has a Master’s of Business Administration from Loyola College (Maryland) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Maryland. Twele makes his home in Howard County.
