February 03, 2015
(Columbia, MD – February 3, 2015) – Howard County Economic Development Authority today announced a $250,000 Catalyst Loan for Epitaxial Technologies, LLC. The three year loan will be used to expand the company’s operations and support the development of Epitaxial’s optical sensor technology.
“Our company is poised for substantial growth and this funding will allow us to leverage the opportunities available to us,” said Epitaxial Technologies Chief Executive Officer Dr. Leye Aina. “We like Howard County because of its ideal location, the collaborative opportunities the county offers with other technology companies, and quite frankly because of the tremendous support we received from the team at HCEDA.”
Epitaxial Technologies, LLC was founded in 1997. They develop and produce next generation optical sensors that are used by the military to detect threats. Their technology can also be used in vehicle applications to avoid collisions.
“Epitaxial is a great example of the kind of cutting edge business we want to attract to Howard County,” said HCEDA CEO Lawrence F. Twele. “It’s a company in a growth mode and we’re fortunate to have the resources to help them develop jobs here in Howard County and Maryland.”
The company is relocating into 3,000 sq. ft. of office and lab space in Columbia, Maryland doubling the size of its existing facility. The firm has seven full time employees and expects to add staff once the move is complete.
