PRIVATE SECTOR INITIATIVE

Making it work...the goal and resounding theme of the Committee for Business and Economic Diversity's (CBED) Private Sector Initiative.

The Private Sector Initiative is a plan that will further emerge and stabilize the diverse business community into the county's economic mainstream. Previous initiatives have focused on bringing small, minority-owned businesses together with public sector organizations. This initiative is designed to encourage the private sector to embrace Howard County's equal business opportunity goals and objectives. The strategy is to hold a series of informal forums, each focusing on a specific target industry. Three or four larger companies and up to ten targeted small companies will be invited to participate in each forum. The larger, established companies would communicate their needs, explain their purchasing methods, and identify key company contacts. The results: a better understanding of each other's needs and capabilities that will place our diverse business community in a position to begin and continue negotiating business opportunities. The successful Private Sector Initiative will create new partnerships, improve company opportunities for increased market share and continued growth, boost employment opportunities, and expand the county's economic base.
