Ellicott City

Ellicott City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Howard County, Maryland, United States. Ellicott City is listed among America’s most affluent communities. Since 2005, Ellicott City has been ranked four times among the top “20 Best Places to Live in the United States”

Columbia

Developed in 1967 on 21 square miles of farmland, Columbia has grown to a town of more than 98,000 people in 10 villages. Columbia was named the 2016 “Best Place to Live in America” by Money Magazine and the 2018 “Safest City in America” in a Wallethub online ranking.

Elkridge

Elkridge is located in Howard County at the confluence of three counties; the other two being Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties.

Laurel

Laurel is an unincorporated city that stretches through three counties: Howard, Prince George’s and Anne Arundel. Laurel is located midway between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore.

Clarksville

Clarksville is an unincorporated community in Howard County. The community is named for William Clark, a farmer who owned much of the land on which the community now lies. Clarksville is a gateway community to rural Western Howard County.

West Friendship

West Friendship is a semi-rural community in western Howard County, Maryland. West Friendship is one of the most affluent towns in Maryland within one of the best school districts in the state. Home of the Howard County Fairgrounds, West Friendship is located at the junction of Interstate 70 and Maryland Route 32.

Cooksville

Cooksville is an affluent semi-rural community with rolling hills and farmland in Western Howard County. Some of the most expensive homes on the East Coast are located in the western part of the county. Historically significant, Cooksville lies along MD Route 97, which is an early road that links Washington, DC with Gettysburg Pennsylvania.

 

As one of the most recognized and sought-after locations in the United States, Howard County naturally offers the best of all worlds when it comes to housing choices.

If an urban vibe is what you’re after, you can find it in a Columbia home that’s close to the action. Or, if you’d rather be a little farther from the bright lights, Howard County also offers housing locations that have a relaxed suburban feel. And if you really long for the rural, the county maintains more than its share of farmland. In fact, Howard County has more horses per acre than any other county in the United States.
