Howard County Executive Calvin Ball announced Dive Bar & Grille, a family owned business out of Pennsylvania will open their 6th location and its first in Maryland at Historic Savage Mill. The new restaurant is 9,000 sq. ft. and located in the “Carding” building. The restaurant will be 3 levels and feature a riverside deck and patio on the courtyard terrace. Opening is planned for June 2021.
Savage Mill, a historic mill from the 1800’s, stands as a regional attraction for visitors across the state. As an anchor institution for the people of Laurel and the surrounding communities- this property is unique and has much to offer which helped in the ability to quickly release a large restaurant space. Despite the pressure on the restaurant industry due to the global pandemic, Historic Savage Mill has secured Dive Bar and Grille in several months’ time.
Though this past year has been challenging for the restaurant and retail industries, this new addition to the Savage Mill community illustrates the resilience of this historic center. The many business residents of Savage Mill thank the community for supporting them in 2020 and are excited for what Dive Bar & Grille restaurant will bring.
“After more than a year of pandemic related closures where restaurants have been hit particularly hard, we are happy and proud to be a part of this great news”, says Jay Winer, General Managing Partner for Historic Savage Mill. “This restaurant will usher in a fresh look and great menu for the Mill and be a great addition to our community. All of us here at Savage Mill, look forward to their opening and great new indoor and extensive outdoor spaces for dining.”
Dive Bar & Grille’s mission is to combine superior customer service with a relaxed, upscale atmosphere, great food, signature cocktails, and a wide selection of beer and wine. The owners, with more than 30 years of experience in the restaurant business, seek to provide a full-service bar & restaurant with the same quality product and service that they have appreciated during their years of working in the service industry.
Having worked closely with Savage Mill to help secure Dive Bar & Grille into their space, Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) is excited to welcome the restaurant to Howard County. Larry Twele, CEO of HCEDA shares, “Dive Bar & Grille is one of the largest restaurant transactions in the county over the past several years and the latest to occur on the Route 1 Corridor. Despite the pandemic’s impact, the pace of real estate transactions and investment in the Corridor has continued to remain strong. After working closely with the team at Savage Mill in their pursuit of this new lease, we are pleased to welcome the Dive Bar & Grille to the community.”
As one of many business projects, EDA continues to work with businesses and property owners along the 11-mile stretch of Route 1 in Howard County to support economic growth and job creation. Securing Dive Bar & Grille is a big accomplishment and the latest development in the bustling Route 1 business corridor. Congratulations to Dive Bar & Grille and Historic Savage Mill, HCEDA is eager to watch both continue to grow and flourish.
