May 10, 2023 — The Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) is excited to announce that applications are now open for the Howard County Agricultural Grant for Innovation and Expansion (AGIE) until June 15, 2023. This program is dedicated to supporting Howard County’s agricultural producers by empowering them to take their businesses to new heights.

AGIE is specifically designed to help agricultural producers in Howard County expand and diversify their business operations, giving them the opportunity to implement new and innovative ideas. Eligible applicants, including crop or livestock producers or processors, agricultural cooperatives, seafood processors, and primary or secondary timber products processors, can take advantage of this grant to increase their competitiveness and boost their success in the market.

“We are pleased to offer another grant cycle of the Howard County AGIE, which we believe will be a game-changer for our community. This grant program has awarded 70 grants totaling over $294,000 since its inception, bolstering agricultural practices and fostering innovation in the industry to propel the future of agriculture in Howard County,” says Lawrence F. Twele, CEO of HCEDA. “This is a win-win for our agricultural industry and for the future of Howard County.”

With funding available from $1,000 up to $20,000, eligible applicants can utilize the grant to research and develop new ideas, construct production buildings and processing facilities, and purchase major fixtures. Applications must be submitted by June 15, 2023, for consideration.

“The growth of the agricultural industry is supporting the livelihoods of our county in so many ways, and we’re excited to offer the AGIE program to local Howard County farmers to support the diversification and innovation process,” says Kathy L. Johnson, Director of Agricultural Business Development of HCEDA.
